There’s some new competition in the field of Best Animated Feature this year.
It’s Pixar’s to lose every year, and let’s be honest, Toy Story 3 was a masterpiece, so they will most likely win this year as well.
But with How To Train Your Dragon and now this, it sure is more of a fight.
Tangled is the updated story of Rapunzel. She’s born, her hair can make an old women young, so she steals her and locks her in a tower. She’s raised as the evil broads daughter and is never allowed to leave.
Flynn Ryder is played by Chuck’s Zachary Levi and he’s pretty perfect in the flick. He’s the suave dude who first doesn’t like the chick, and then does. Standard fair. Mandy Moore is Rapunzel and she is awesome as well. She has that perfect sweet and naive princess down to science.
Donna Murphy plays the “mother” who is evil, and boy is she delightful in this. She has quite a powerful voice and is a great wicked villain to add to the ranks.
The two animal characters, Maximus and Pascal are some of the best parts of the flicks. They don’t have dialogue or anything, but they do more acting in their mannerisms then Sly Stallone did in all of The Expendables. To be fair to Sly, he couldn’t move his face because of all the horrid surgery.
The music is classic Disney. All the songs fit well and are happy when they need to be happy, sad when they need to be sad and funny when it counts. I loved them all and was humming a few of them as I walked out of the theater.

It’s to be noted that this is the 50th animated Disney flick. They said it’ll be the last fairy tale for some time. No songs, no princesses. I’m not sure how I feel about that now as this was easily the best Disney effort since Lilo and Stitch. And before that? The Lion King. Now, I know these aren’t really fairy tales, but I’m not gonna go back ALL the way to Aladdin.
I’ll be interested to see where Disney goes from here because I really loved this movie. I had a huge smile on my face the entire time and I was my own personal horse named Maximus now. But only if he’s like this Maximus because a regular one would be boring.
I’m gonna give this movie a 10/10. I know I give them out often, but I really loved it. It was funny, sweet had great performances and the music is catchy. Please please please see this movie when you get a chance.
Oh, and I dug the 3D. It wasn’t schlocky. It wasn’t in your face. It was immersive.
